Welcome to Class... in Hawaii!
A Hawaiian Virtual Classroom Experience
Issue 1: Article 2

The teaching profession (as we knew it) is changing on a daily basis. Schools across the United States are seeking new opportunities to seamlessly connect parents to school. Duncan-Howell (2010) concluded that online communities presented a worthwhile form of professional learning for teachers and parents. An example exists, in what is referred to as a "Bitmoji Classroom", where teachers can create fun and engaging classroom spaces online.
The Bitmoji Classroom consists of a combination of Google Slides and a Bitmoji avatar on a presentation slide. This tool offers multiple benefits to teachers and parents, as well as a visually-connecting classroom for students. Teachers can share a link to the virtual classroom with parents and easily update agendas, post virtual field-trips, etc. Students can also collaborate online with each other by clicking links to programs such as Quizlet, Class Dojo, Pear Deck, or any other online curriculum.
In short, the Bitmoji Classroom contributes to the organizational principles of learning to value diverse ways of learning. Students are provided collaborative learning opportunities in an online space with FUN as an objective.
*For other suggestions, teachers can use the Bitmoji Classroom to organize live Zoom meetings and post recordings for those needing additional time.
